Ski Plane Fly-In
January 23, 2010- While cloudy and windy weather conditions that prevented ski planes from flying into the Pioneer Airport, the annual event was well attended. Close to 200 aviation enthusiasts arrived to enjoy the luncheon of chili, soup and breadsticks, chat and engage in a little hangar flying. The group was also able to enjoy birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of EAA’s matriarch, Audrey Poberezny.

Wright Brothers Memorial Banquet
December 18, 2009- This year’s event celebrated the 106th anniversary of powered flight, with Jeff Skiles, First Officer on US Airways Flight 1549 giving the keynote address. Over 370 guests attended the annual dinner and enjoyed Skiles speech on the Flight of 1549. He shared with the audience the experience of the January 15, 2009, landing in the Hudson and the lessons learned from that event. He also talked about his new role as co chairman of the Young Eagles program and his newly purchased Waco.

2009 Christmas in the Air
December 8, 2009-Despite a snowstorm, again this year, Christmas in the Air attracted over 2500 people to the 26th annual community open house at the AirVenture Museum. The event featured over 20 local musical groups that performed in four staged areas throughout the museum. The crowds also enjoyed the return of those “Funny Little People”. Free cookies, cookies and hot chocolate, plus the return of Just “Plane” Chocolate added to the evening’s festivities. The highlight of the night was the arrival of Santa Claus via helicopter.
